Zina Almers
Zina
Almers is President and General Manager of WCHL. She has lived in
Orange County for 24 years. After graduating from UNC in 1987, Zina
found it very difficult to leave this great community. Zina brings 15
years of sales and marketing experience to WCHL. Prior to WCHL, Zina
worked for The Herald-Sun Newspapers as The General Manager of The
Chapel Hill Herald. She currently serves on the board of The Chapel
Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce. She is the former chairwoman of
Orange County’s United Way campaign and has served as a board member of
The Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce, Orange County Communities in
Schools and The Chapel Hill/Carrboro YMCA. Zina lives in Hillsborough
with her daughter, who attends Orange County Schools.
Christy Dixon
Christy Dixon has been WCHL’s Station Manager since the radio station
came back to Chapel Hill in 2002. Like many, Christy found her way to
Chapel Hill to attend UNC and loved it here so much that she never
left. As Station Manager her duties are manifold and her job
description is lengthy! It is Christy’s job to listen to the community
and work to put that feedback into action. Please let her know if there
is anything you need, anything you want to know, or any praise or
complaint you want to voice about WCHL. Outside of the radio station,
Christy is a nature lover and enjoys hiking in the woods with her dogs
and cuddling up to her feline roommates. All of them are Tar Heel fans
through and through. Go Heels!
Aubrey Fox
Aubrey Fox has been a part of the WCHL sales team since 2003.
Originally from Washington DC, Aubrey prefers the slower pace and
friendly atmosphere of her home in Chapel Hill. "I feel very lucky to
have a job that allows me to interact with the business owners of
Chapel Hill and Carrboro. What a wonderful place to live and work!"
When she isn't selling advertising for Chapel Hill-Carrboro's News Talk
and Tar Heels station, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé,
friends and family. She also loves hiking in the woods with her dog and
her weekly Pilates classes.
John Stillman
Upon realizing the error of his ways, Stillman is back at WCHL after a ten-month hiatus.
After spending several months as a news/sports reporter, he moved to
Fayetteville where he spent almost a year with ESPN Radio 1450 as a
producer and sales associate. Having endured being away from Chapel
Hill for as long as is humanly possible, he returns to WCHL as an
account executive.
As WCHL’s token Republican, Stillman enjoys Carolina football, the
Atlanta Braves, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, and the philosophy of the Old
West. His dislikes include Coach K and hippies.
He graduated from Carolina in May ’06 and lives in Chapel Hill.
Leanne Tripp
Catching the "bug" at Spring Hill College's radio station in Mobile,
Alabama, Leanne went on to host radio programs in Birmingham and
Huntsville before moving back to the Carolinas to entertain listeners
in Myrtle Beach and then her hometown, Wilmington. Marriage moved her
to New Bern, followed two years later by her husband’s transfer to the
Triangle, where, as luck would have it, the couple and their adorable
fourteen year old tuxedo cat, Simba, fell in love with a quiet town in
closer proximity to where their lives were taking them, Saxapahaw.
Leanne found her way to the incredible staff and programming at WCHL.
"They still believe in doing radio the old fashioned way, making our
listeners and community top priority, which is why I got into radio in
the first place." In her spare time, Leanne and her husband cruise the
countryside on their Harley, cheer on the Heels, or travel, often to
Disney World. "We got married there, and I’m a Mickey fanatic!" Contact
her at ltripp@1360wchl.com
Ron Stutts
To scores of Chapel Hillians, Ron Stutts is as essential to their
morning routines as a cup of coffee. For a quarter century, Ron has
awakened our community with interesting conversations, fascinating
guests and a familiar voice. On Ron's show there's always sophisticated
local humor and an occasional - but affectionate - jab at a public
official.
He's sometimes irreverant, but never goes too far. If you want to know what's happening in our community, Ron's your guy!
Lynda-Marie Taurasi
Lynda-Marie Taurasi joined WCHL in the fall of 2008 and was named News
Director in May 2009. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Meredith
College in Raleigh. Upon graduation, she spent a few years living in
New York City, working as a music and entertainment journalist. She
became disillusioned with the entertainment industry and longed for
Carolina blue skies, sunshine, and most importantly, fresh air.
In 2006, she moved to Carrboro and became active in community
journalism. She was the Wednesday host of The West End Report on
Carrboro’s non-profit, community radio station WCOM 103.5 LP-FM. While
at WCOM, she turned her attention to producing audio documentaries such
as the one she produced on Carrboro’s Really Free Market.
In her “spare” time, she freelances as the North Carolina correspondent
for Free Speech Radio News, a national and international radio news
program. She lives in Chapel Hill and attends the Center for
Documentary Studies at Duke University, finishing her Certificate in
Documentary Arts.
She has a passion for radio and all things Orange County; She believes
WCHL is the voice of our community. Email her your news tip at ltaurasi@1360wchl.com
Elizabeth Friend
Elizabeth Friend joined the WCHL team as a news reporter in the fall of
2008. Since returning to Orange County in 2000, she has written about
everything from the theater scene in downtown Durham to the lifestyles
of dairy farmers in Chatham county. A night owl and inveterate reader,
Elizabeth is well-suited to the late hours and long documents that come
with covering local government. From the Hillsborough court house to
Chapel Hill's Council Chambers, she's out there keeping tabs on what's
going on in our community.
In her spare time Elizabeth likes to cook, garden, read contemporary
fiction and pander to her dogs. She's always eager to learn more about
local food, environmental sustainability, and new media.
If you know of issues affecting our community that are not being
addressed, or if you just want to chat about the latest tempest at Town
Hall, contact Elizabeth at efriend@1360wchl.com.
Anthony "Tony Terrell" Wellman
Anthony "Tony Terrell" Wellman relocated to Chapel Hill in March 2009
as a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He attended Full Sail
University in Orlando, Florida and completed the Recording Arts program
in April 2007. He interned at several recording studios around North
Carolina before discovering the wonderful world of radio in July of
2007. As an employee of the Triad's News Radio AM 600/1200 WSJS in
Winston-Salem, Anthony became a superior show producer and continuity
assistant. He also endeavored and gained experience as a sideline
reporter for "High School Football Friday." Anthony now brings his
strong work ethic and desire to succeed to the WCHL Family. Along with
his girlfriend Alicia accompanying him in Chapel Hill, Anthony aspires
