Former CH Mayor's Aide Gets New Gig

Carlo Robustelli had mixed emotions when Mark Klienschmidt was elected to be Chapel Hill’s new mayor. He knew his time as mayoral aide was coming to a close, and he would soon need to find another job.

From 2007 until December of last year, Robustelli worked as former Mayor Kevin Foy’s aide, and because his position was so prominent in the community, so was his job loss. More often than not, he was asked about his employment search and was given a slew of suggestions on how he should use his “time off.” So, Carlo decided to put the contacts he made while working for the mayor to use. Through networking, he learned Durham Tech, the community college he once attended, needed a Director of Operations for their Orange County campus.

Robustelli says Durham Tech offered him a high quality-low cost option that made his UNC degree more affordable. He says his personal experience with the community college will carry over to his new position.  Robustelli, who just started this week, will be handling daily operations, student services and will also be using those contacts he acquired from his previous job.

He says what he misses most from working at the Mayor’s office are the folks from Chapel Hill’s Town Hall, but he says he’s confident that their paths will cross again as he represents Durham Tech.
