Letanya Love, president of the local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., says the group’s teen parenting seminar was designed to help a group that wasn’t getting enough help.
The program was so successful that it was recently chosen as the most distinguished program in the sorority’s South Atlantic Region, which contains Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Bermuda. Teen parents participate in a full-day seminar called “Pregnancy, Parenting, and Positivity: An Educational Program for Parenting Teens.”
Love says the local chapter has been running the seminar since 2004, and a few of its participants have come back to tell them that they’ve graduated from high school. The program encourages the teen parents to continue their education, which Love considers essential.
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has existed since 1979. Their sixth annual installment of the program will take place March 27th. For more information, you can contact Letanya Love at 622-0047.
