Battalion Chief Jeff Cabe says Chapel Hill Fire Department personnel were called out to deal with a fire at a northeast Chapel Hill residence.

Cabe says firefighters began extinguishing the fire at 2:03, and pronounced the fire “out” at 2:12.  Five CHFD fire trucks and three support trucks were called to the scene, as well as one truck and one battalion chief from Durham.

As of 3:30 p.m., investigators were on scene, but no malicious intent was suspected.  Cabe said the house sustained about $100,000 worth of damage, including smoke and water.

Cabe reminds all Chapel Hill residents to make sure that they have working smoke detectors in their homes, and to keep address markings visible for emergency services.
