Environmental action group Transition Carrboro-Chapel Hill will put in an appearance at Saturday's Chapel Hill-Carrboro Holiday Parade.

Steering Committee member Tim Peck says the group’s float is part of an effort to spread awareness about the issues of oil consumption and climate change.

The group is part of an international movement called Transition Towns, devoted to raising awareness about the peak oil theory and the dangers of climate change.  The movement was pushed forward by British environmentalist Rob Hopkins, leading to international participation and expansion.

For many groups, the Holiday Parade is a time to show off what they’re about.  Peck says Transition Carrboro-Chapel Hill is no different.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, running until noon.  WCHL will be there with Ron Stutts riding along with the Heelraiser. East Franklin Street between Boundary and Columbia Streets will close at 8 a.m. in preparation for the parade to start at 10.
