Grant To Help Transition Tobacco Workers

Teretha Bell, program director for Human Resource Development at Durham Tech, says a new grant will help transition prospective students from the tobacco industry into a new field.

The grant comes from the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, and Durham Tech has received $50,000 for the program.  The grant helps not just farmers but also farmers’ families and anyone in the tobacco industry.

The grant started in July of this year and runs through June of next year.  Bell says training will be offered in a variety of different areas, such as Biotechnology and Nursing Assistant.

Bell says the grant money is already helping residents find a new line of work.

If you are interested in finding out more about the grant, call Bell at 536-7222 ext. 4001.
