WCHL ReporterAfter winning its eighth game of the season this past Saturday at Boston College, North Carolina will close out regular season play with a trip to Raleigh to face arch-rival N.C. State.
Head coach Butch Davis says his team needs very little reminder about the importance of this Saturday’s in-state showdown.
The Tar Heels lead the all time series over the Wolf pack 63-29 including a 5-2 advantage at Carter-Finley Stadium. However the Tar Heels will look to shake off key mistakes made in last years game in which the Tar Heels fell to the Wolf pack 41-10 at Kenan Stadium.
Saturday’s game will mark the third meeting between Butch Davis and Tom O’Brien at their current head coach positions. Davis and O’Brien met four times from 1997 to 2000 while coaches in the Big East Conference. Davis was a perfect 4-0 at Miami over O’Brien’s Boston College Eagles.
Carolina’s 8th nationally ranked defense will once again have their hands full this Saturday as N.C. State Junior quarterback Russell Wilson comes into the game with almost 3,000 thousand yards passing this season. Coach Butch Davis says his teams will have to contain one of the most efficient offensive players in the ACC.
Kickoff between the Tar Heels and Wolfpack is scheduled for high noon. WCHL’s pre-game coverage will begin at 9 a.m. with countdown to kick-off at 9 a.m.
