WCHL ReporterThe possible extension of Elizabeth Brady Road in Hillsborough will be the topic of discussion at a public hearing next month hosted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Steve Abbot, communications officer for the DOT, says the proposed expansion will make commuting easier for residents of Hillsborough and Orange County.
The hearing will start at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 7th in the gymnasium of Cameron Park Elementary School in Hillsborough. There will also be a pre-hearing open house from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the schools cafeteria that will have Department of Transportation representatives available to answer questions and receive comments regarding the proposed project. Once the hearing begins at 7, a presentation will be made that explains the proposed location and the projects design.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation proposes widening and extending Elizabeth Brady Road from the intersection of Highway 86 with US business 70. The proposed project would involve the construction of a three-mile, multi-land highway. Abbot adds that resident input is important to highlight any issues previously unforeseen.
Three alternatives are also being considered in the planning process. Other alternatives would construct a four-land, median-divided facility on a new location and would require a new crossing of the Eno River.
