WCHL ReporterSome members of the Rogers-Eubanks community are again coming to the town of Carrboro and Orange County with concerns over what they call “serious contamination” in their drinking and surface water.
The historically black community has been dealing with water contamination issues for 37 years.
David Caldwell, the project specialist and program coordinator for the neighborhood, says that the cause of the problem isn’t the focus, but a solution is.
In recent tests, some private well water samples had excess amounts of E. Coli and other coliform bacteria, at up to 236 times the standard. The report also found that several on-site septic systems were not working, causing major problems for the many locals who depend upon private wells for their water.
Caldwell and Reverend Robert Campbell have come before the Carrboro Board of Aldermen in recent weeks to discuss the issue.
Caldwell says he’s hopeful about the project, and said more has gotten done in the last three years than in the previous 34.
Caldwell says that there are plans for members of the community to speak before the Board of Aldermen at their meeting Tuesday.
