Counties Meet To Settle Borders
11/08/09 07:17PM

By Ben Gellman
WCHL Reporter

Orange County Commissioner Barry Jacobs says the dispute between Orange and Alamance Counties is about as confusing as they come.

The two counties are getting their boards of commissioners together to start a process leading toward a redefinition of the line between the counties.  Jacobs says the confusion isn’t out of the ordinary, as Orange County settled a dispute with Chatham County a few years ago, and Alamance did the same with Guilford County.

Jacobs says the taxes are significantly higher in Orange County, which may make building in Alamance County more enticing for developers who are watching the situation unfold.  And he says the city of Mebane has a stake in the decision as well.

So after 160 years, the two counties have decided that enough is enough, and that it’s time to draw the line.
