WCHL ReporterChapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools has named Carrboro Elementary Principal Doctor Emily Bivins as 2009-2010 principal of the year.
Neil Pedersen, Superintendent for CHCCS, says Bivins is a favorite among parents because of her care for each individual child.
During her time at Carrboro Elementary, Dr. Bivins has established or enhanced several education programs including their dual language program, and early child hood development programs.
Prior to becoming principal at Carrboro Elementary in 2006, Bivins was the coordinator of elementary education in Cherokee County. During her time in Chapel Hill Bivins served as director of elementary instruction and staff development for C-H-C-C-S. She also served as a classroom teacher at Estes Hills and McDougle Elementary Schools.
Pedersen adds her experience across several aspects of education has allowed her to be a more proficient leader and educator.
Bivins holds a bachelors degree in education from Wake Forest University and then earned her doctorate of education in curriculum and instruction from UNC.
