The start of the new NBA basketball season is here and all around the league you can feel the impact made by former Tar Heels.
Over on the west coast, it seems as if former Bobcat now Sacramento King Sean May has fought off the injury bug early on as he has contributed 13 points off the bench in the first two games of the season.
Over in the eastern conference Atlanta Hawks forward Marvin Williams is averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds a game as Atlanta has jumped out to a 2 and 0 start, While Bobcats guard Raymond Felton fought through cramps and scored 22 points in a double overtime victory versus the New York Knicks Friday night.
Over in Denver Colorado, Ty Lawson has surely lived up to early expectations as he has become a key back-up to established guards such as Chauncey Billups and Anthony Carter. On opening night, Lawson provided a spark for the nuggets off the bench scoring 17 points and added 6 assist in the 117-104 win versus the Utah Jazz. Lawson is averaging 12 points and three assist early in the season and has only turned-over the ball once.
Over in Minnesota, shooting guard Wayne Ellington has also proved to be a key reserve for the Timberwolves as he has contributed 46 minutes of play with 12 points off the bench. Minnesota currently has a record of 1 and 1 through two games.
In the shadows of the Lebron James, Shaquille O’Neal hype lies forward Danny Green. In the first 3 games Green has seen action posting 4 points in 37 minutes of play.
Over in Indiana, pacers forward Tyler Hansbrough is yet to see the court as he deals with the lingering shin injury that bothered him during his days in Chapel Hill. Even though Hansbrough’s effectiveness at the next level remains to be seen, Coach Roy Williams says there is already a void at the Dean Smith Center.
Be on the lookout for your favorite Tar Heels as the season wears on, especially seasoned veterans like Vince Carter and Rasheed Wallace who have new teams this season.
