The UNC General Alumni Association has named basketball legend Eric Montross, along with two others as recipients of this year’s Young Alumni Awards.   

Montross says his motivation for public service comes from the commitment to excellence instilled in him by Coach Dean Smith.

Montross is a member of the 1993 National Championship team and graduated from UNC in 1994 with a degree in speech.  After a professional career in the NBA that lasted over 10 years, Montross returned to Chapel Hill and launched a series of fundraisers that benefit the North Carolina Children’s Hospital.  The annual Eric Montross Father’s Day Basketball Camp marked its 15th anniversary earlier this year and has raised over 800-thousand dollars for the hospital to date. 

Accompanying Montross as recipients for the Young Alumni Award is Burke County Community College Administrator Emily Williamson, Class of 1999, and Student Body President Eve Carson.   Montross adds he’s honored to be in the same class with two remarkable individuals. 

The three were honored at an Alumni Awards Banquet on October 2nd.
