Raleigh police reports say that the UNC Doctor charged with second-degree murder in the death of a Carolina Ballet dancer had registered a blood alcohol content of .19.
It was a search warrant to review Raymond Cook’s Iphone that revealed his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit hours after the accident. The legal limit is 0.08.
On Monday, Cook went before a grand jury in Wake County and was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and driving while impaired. He has been accused of driving drunk and speeding.
On Sept. 11, his Mercedes-Benz rear ended the Hyundai driven by Elena Bright Shapiro. Shapiro, who was 20-years old, was a dancer The Carolina Ballet. The accident happened at Strickland road.
Police believe Cook was on his phone when the accident happened. He had stopped being served by managers at a nearby Raleigh bar minutes before the accident occurred.
Cook has surrendered his medical license and given up his position with UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine and his role as plastic surgeon at Wake Med. He is currently out on bail.
