WCHL ReporterDinesh D’Souza will face off against Bart Ehrman in a debate on October 7th. The event will be held at Memorial Hall on UNC’s campus.
Larry Taunton, executive director of Fixed Point Foundation and sponsor of the event, says the two men will debate the question of suffering throughout the world and God’s existence.
Fixed Point Foundation, the sponsor of the event, is an organization dedicated to defending Christianity through education and innovative activities. Taunton says Christianity is often tied to politics and policies, and this can make it difficult to get to some of the underlying questions.
The Foundation is based in Birmingham, Alabama, where the first debate was held. Some questioned whether a debate could fill the 2,000 seat venue in Birmingham. Those questions were answered when 22,000 people showed up for the event.
Taunton says the Foundation decided to sponsor debates at several universities because there is a market for thoughtful public discourse.
Tickets for the debate are free to student and $10 to the public. The event is said to likely sell out. If you would like to attend, call the Memorial Hall Box Office at 843-3333.
