Whenever there’s a discussion regarding health care reform and immigration, tempers are sure to rise. A forum coming soon to UNC regarding higher education access to undocumented immigrants aims to take a more civil tone.
Jan Boxill, director of the UNC Parr Center for Ethics, says the discussion will be in conjunction with UNC’s summer reading selection “A Home on the Field.”
Among those who will join Cuadros on the panel will be Ron Woodard, director of N.C. Listen; Hannah Gill, of the Study of the Americas at UNC-Chapel Hill and Robert Luebke, senior policy analyst at the John Pope Institute. The discussion will also look at how higher education access for undocumented workers is related to health care reform.
The panel consists of a group of different perspectives, both economically and politically.
While the health care debate has sparked extremely high emotions across the country in similar forums, Boxill says the target of this discussion is to look beyond the emotion.
The event is free and open to the public. It will take place Thursday, September 10th at the Nelson Mandela Auditorium on the UNC campus starting at 6:30.
