After an incident yesterday at the intersection of S. Columbia St. and Cameron Avenue, three charges have been filed against Ryan Dane Holden.

Randy Young, public information officer for UNC’s Department of Public Safety, says the responding officer was able to pursue the driver after help from eyewitnesses.

Eyewitnesses say a Volkswagen ran a red light and struck a bicyclist, and the suspect then drove the vehicle eastbound on Cameron Ave. Holden was apprehended moments later near the ATM’s on campus.

Young says officers noticed an open can of beer in the vehicle and also found marijuana. Holden will face DWI charges in addition to possession of marijuana and felony hit and run.

The bicyclist was transported to UNC Hospitals after the incident with what Young referred to as “non-life threatening” injuries.

Holden was transported to the Chapel Hill Police Department for DWI and criminal processing.
