4 Students Confess to Ice Machine Vandalism
12/23/08 06:27PM

Urine in the Smith Middle School ice machine came from four Chapel Hill students aged 12 to 15 who admitted to police that they were the culprits, says Chapel Hill Police Lieutenant Kevin Gunter.

As soon as they learned that urine was in the ice machine in the cafeteria, Smith officials immediately took it out of operation. They sent a message home with students addressed to parents on Friday informing them of the situation. In it they included assurances from the Orange County Health Department that there are no known health risks associated with consuming contaminated ice.

The minors responsible, whose names are not being released as per law, now face a bevy of charges in juvenile court.

Gunter says he isn’t sure what penalties they will face from school administrators and he did not know which school they attend.
