After two weeks, two UNC alumni have made their way to Chapel Hill after following the path of the University’s first student, Hinton James.

Family members, media personnel, and members of the Carolina Alumni Association were there  on Friday to greet the walkers as they arrived at the Old Well just at the stroke of noon.

Bryan Jones and Nicholas Becketti, two of the walkers, began their 170-mile trek from the coast of Wilmington on August 1st.

They modeled it on the walk Hinton James made to get to the University in 1795.

The group of two turned into a group of four when friends Whitney Reeds and Eric Jones- Bryan’s younger brother – joined up along the way.

Sweating and smiling, Jones recalled some of the quirkier moments of their journey.

And his sister, Katelyn, said she thinks the trip was worth it.

Jones said he and the other walkers hope to start a tradition and perhaps raise money in the future.
