Rusting looms and deserted fabric spinners in rural North Carolina might soon be displaced by blinking servers and Internet routers.

Search engine company Google may accept a state grant incentive to open a branch of its offices in Caldwell County.

That’s the governor’s press secretary Renee Hoffman.

The Google incentive package could be worth four-point-seven million dollars create 210 jobs.

It’s the latest iteration of state efforts to combat flagging traditional rural industries by importing tech-based work, which Hoffman says has proved quite stable despite the bubbles of last decade.

North Carolina has given out 53 grants since 2003 through similar incentives that Hoffman says have lured 20,000 new jobs and two-point-five billion dollars in new investments to the state.
