Reid Johnson of Carrboro-based band Schooner says some difficulty in releasing the band’s newest EP turned into an opportunity to do some good.

CyTunes is a Web-based music distribution service where all of the revenue goes to the Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University.  Cy Rawls was a local music fan and radio host on WXYC who passed away in 2008 because of a malignant brain tumor.  Friends held benefit concerts and other fundraisers for a benevolence fund for Rawls’s medical expenses before he passed away October 3, 2008.

While Rawls may have had his life cut short by the disease, he certainly continues to make a difference in the fight against brain cancer through CyTunes.  Williams remembers his friend and the local reaction when he received his fatal diagnosis.
