WCHL ReporterThe mysterious mailer sent out late last week, promoting Chapel Hill mayoral candidate Mark Kleinschmidt that also painted fellow candidate Matt Czajkowski as a “divisive leader,” was sent by former Chapel Hill Town Councilmember Cam Hill.
Hill says he is the sole member of the CHC PAC.
WCHL received an anonymous tip to contact the State Board of Elections. Hill says he got a call from Amy Strange, compliance specialist with the State Board of Elections, which he returned earlier this morning.
Tracy Reams, director of elections for the Orange County Board of Elections, says she received a call from the State Board of Elections confirming Hill was behind the CHC PAC mailer.
Hill’s first expenditure was on October 26th. He has 10 days from his first expenditure to file with the Orange County Board of Elections. Hill says he plans to file on Wednesday, which will be within the limits.
Hill says he wanted the mailer to have the greatest impact possible.
Hill lost the last seat on the Chapel Hill Town Council to Matt Czajkowski in 2007 by only 63 votes.
