For the 8th straight year, a local family is hosting the Come Out And Play sculpture show at their farm in Carrboro later this month.
Deborah Meyer and her husband host the show at their farm every year. She says visitors are free to enjoy themselves however they would like.
The first show was held in 2002, after an art show she helped organize to honor the victims of 9/11 had no room for sculptures. Meyer and her husband offered to display the sculptures outside at their farm. The event has grown from that year, with attendance increasing from 100 in 2002 to 800 in 2008.
Meyer says art is a competitive field, and shows like this one give young artists an opportunity to gain exposure. Even established sculptors can have trouble finding local venues for their work, she adds.
Just as important, Meyer says, is the service it offers attendees.
The show will debut on August 29, and will be open every Saturday in September. There is no cost for admission. A flier for the show can be found here.
