So is he satisfied with the progress?

In a sign that UNC is gaining back a national reputation in football, the Tar Heels have reportedly agreed to face LSU in the 2010 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff in Atlanta. The matchup has gained national prominence in recent years by matching up an ACC team against an SEC opponent. Last year, Alabama polished off Clemson. This season, the Crimson Tide will face Virginia Tech on September fifth.

When Davis took the Carolina job in December 2006, the cliché was he had to change the football culture in Chapel Hill.

But he believes the hallmark of a great program always starts with the players.

If UNC does agree to face LSU, it will likely mean the scheduled date with South Carolina in Columbia will be put off for a year or two. N.C. State and Tennessee have already agreed to play in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff in 2012.
