Cycling is widely considered an individual sports.
Local author Pamela Pease, who closely follows the sport, thought the same thing until she started the task of writing a pop-up book on the Tour de France.
Pease, a Chapel Hill author and illustrator, has written Pop-Up Tour de France. It’s available from Paint in the Box Press, a local independent publisher of imaginatively designed picture books. Among the books in the Paint in the Box catalogue is a pop-up book on the Kentucky Derby.
Pease started work on the book in 2007. Originally, Pease started out as a sportswear designer in southern California. She also designed swimsuits in Los Angeles. However, when her family moved to Buffalo, she found swimsuits weren’t the best fit for one of the coldest spots in America. So she started focusing on book design.
While the Tour may look exciting on television, Pease says it’s nothing compared to experiencing it on the Paris roadways.
