Chapel Hill’s downtown dance club, Players, has nearly completed its renovations which promises to bring in a new scene.

Drew Smith co-manager of Players says the opening next Wednesday will take players in a new direction.

Players will bring in musical acts to perform between 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Smith says they want to be a venue for local artists and for out-of-town bands. Players has a maximum capacity of 4-hundred people, Smith says the size will help attract bands. Players has always been known as a dance club.

Smith says they will stay true to that vision, but are now exploring ways to broaden their revenue stream.

The club will re-open Wednesday, dispelling the rumors of its closing, with “The Club Is Open” festival. The doors will open at 8 p.m. and will feature the band Hammer No More The Fingers. Admission is free.
