Hamilton Won't Seek 2nd Term On School Board

Jean Hamilton is trading her spot on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board for a spot back in the classroom as a student.

Thus, she will not seek re-election.

With the aforementioned departure of board chairwoman Lisa Stuckey, the city school board will see four vacancies this year. Hamilton had never been involved in politics when she jumped into the race for a vacant seat in 2005, but proved to be just as popular as the incumbents she ran against.

She joined Stuckey and Pam Hemminger in grabbing the three seats up for grabs. During her four years, Hamilton has listened to many divisive issues.

But she was proud of how the board handled the complicated process of the opening of Carrboro High School in 2006.

Hamilton will stay on the board until December.
