Interns of UNC’s Carolina Economic Recovery Corps will help soothe the strain of downturn.

Jesse White, the director of the office of economic and business development, says that the program only came about a month ago…but they have found the best students for the job.

Nine interns were selected for the Economic Recovery Corps.  Eight of the interns will work in different councils of government throughout the state while one of them will work at the North Carolina League of Municipalities.  White says that each intern will help their assigned community come up with a grant proposal for their specific ocation.  The money that funds the program comes from UNC, but the money that the interns will help the communities write grants for…will come directly from the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

White says the program will follow the progress of the Corps interns throughout the summer.

The interns were selected from a pool of 60 candidates, and were given an intensive day of training to help them get ready build the specific skills needed such as grant writing.
